The Challenge

Improving image quality of ground-based telescopes

Ground-based astronomy is the branch of astronomy that studies celestial objects using telescopes located on the Earth’s surface. These telescopes collect and focus light coming from distant stars, planets, and galaxies, allowing astronomers to observe and analyze their properties.

Ground based telescopes, in particular telescopes having large apertures (~1mt) the performances are affected by the wavefront deformation induced by the atmosphere.

AZnother need is to compensate residual tolerances in the assembly/alignment of the telescopes

Why Adaptive Optics

Adaptive optics is the solution to the two needs reported above.
